Mark Spitz is Michael Phelps’ biggest fan

HA.  Oh Mark Spitz.  I wish I could say I lost a little respect for you this day, but since I know nothing about you besides your medal record, I can’t really say that I have.  How can you come out and blame all these various agencies for not flying you out on their dime, to view your own personal records being broken?  If you are going to be so self-involved, can they not be as well and be concerned over the cost, just for you viewing pleasure?  If you are so concerned about your records and being there, then pay for it yourself, just like every other person attending the Olympics has to do.  Someone should let Mark Spitz know that Phelps is going after numerous individual records this Olympics, not just his.

Oh Jesus Christ, really?

“Spitz said the International Olympic Committee, a US television network or FINA—the international body that governs world swimming—should have brought him to the Games this year, with Phelps making a go at his record.

‘I never got invited. You don’t go to the Olympics just to say, I am going to go. Especially because of who I am,’ Spitz told AFP in Hong Kong. ‘I am going to sit there and watch Michael Phelps break my record anonymously? That’s almost demeaning to me. It is not almost—it is.’ […]

‘I won seven events. If they had the 50m freestyle back then, which they do now, I probably would have won that too,’ he said.
